The Gléhen shipyard in Le Guilvinec has launched pelagic trawler Les Chignolles at its Douarnenez yard for Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie fishing company La Belle Alliance.
Behind the venture are Vendée fisherman Jérémy Chagnolleau, two fishmongers and the canning company Gendreau. Built at a €2 million cost to a Coprexma design, this 14.38-metre vessel, powered by a 331kW Cummins QSK engine, has an inverted bow, providing greater volume at the waterlne.
Les Chignolles has a catch handling line, with a conveyor belt, and with the fish chilled in 6m3 chilled tank and stored in 200kg boxes to maintain quality of pelagic fish which are its main target species.
Les Chignolles is expected to arrive in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie on 20th November and will start fishing right away.
The new trawler will work with a crew of four, working day trip on sardine alongside partner trawler Papy Chichi, which Gléhen expects to deliver in February 2021.
Pelagic catches will be delivered to the Gendreau cannery. The pair of La Belle Alliance pelagic vessels will also exploit a quota of red (bluefin) tuna in summer. During the winter, target species are demersal catches of cuttlefish, squid and hake.
